About the Author

Charlie Lord was born in Topeka, Kansas in 1954. He graduated Topeka West High School in 1972, and Washburn University in 1978. He was the Topeka Aces Semi-Pro All Time Leader in Hits, Doubles, Runs and RBI’s; Washburn University Baseball Letterman 1974-1977, and All District 10 NAIA All Star Team 1976-1977. His school record includes four homeruns in one day May 4, 1976; Season OBA of 575 in 1977; Washburn University Lifetime Batting Average of 335; Minor League Baseball 1977-1979; and Hit long 479 foot Homerun June 19, 1979 at Eugene, Oregon. In his professional career, he served as the Topeka, Kansas YMCA Youth Community Director 1979-1983; Little Rock, Arkansas YMCA Branch Executive Director 1983-1987; Plainview, Texas YMCA Executive Director 1987-1991; Downtown Wichita YMCA Branch Executive Director 1991-1994; Odessa, Texas YMCA CEO 1995-1997; Omaha YMCA VP Operations 1998-2000; YMCA of South Alabama CEO 2001-2007; YMCA of Alabama State Alliance Chairman 2001-2007; YMCA of Topeka YMCA CEO 2008-2014; and YMCA of Kansas State Alliance Chairman 2008-2014. He has also volunteered for many organizations, including Independent Minor League Baseball Scout 2015-2019; West Wichita Optimist Club President 2019-2022; Wichita St John’s Episcopal Church Board President 2021-2022; Kansas Optimist Lt Governor 2022-current; Northwest Wichita Little League YMCA Coach 2018-current.
